Bofors Test Center in Karlskoga Strengthens Its Barrel Inspection Capabilities
Täby, July 2, 2026 – Bofors Test Center in Karlskoga is expanding its capabilities in the measurement and inspection of the internal geometry of gun barrels through the acquisition of the laser-based BEMIS inspection system. The new equipment enables precise inspection of both gun barrels and chambers to identify wear, damage, and material build-up that may affect the performance, service life, and safety of weapon systems.
BEMIS (Bore Erosion Measurement and Inspection System), delivered by CLP System AB in Täby, has previously been supplied to BAE BOFORS for the inspection and monitoring of the 155 mm barrels used in the Archer artillery system. The technology is based on advanced laser measurement techniques that generate a detailed three-dimensional representation of the internal condition of the barrel, enabling fast, accurate, and reliable analysis.
The system is currently used by weapon manufacturers, test centers, and armed forces worldwide and is unique in its field. Through this investment, Bofors Test Center further strengthens its ability to provide advanced measurement and testing services for development, verification, and life-cycle monitoring of gun barrels.
The expanded capability will provide customers with access to even more detailed measurement data, contributing to increased operational reliability, improved maintenance planning, and better decision-making for the continued operation and life-cycle management of weapon systems.
